Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to common questions
Why is the export button not appearing? ▼
Possible causes and solutions:
- Check if the extension is enabled in chrome://extensions/
- Refresh the ChatGPT page (Ctrl+R / Cmd+R)
- Open Chrome DevTools Console to check for error messages
- Ensure extension permissions are not denied
Why does Chinese text appear as boxes in PDF? ▼
This is caused by missing Chinese glyphs in the font. Solutions:
- When exporting PDF, the browser will prompt for permission. Click "Allow" to authorize using system fonts (e.g., Microsoft YaHei, PingFang)
- If no Chinese fonts are installed, the extension will automatically fall back to the built-in Noto Sans CJK
- Advanced users can open the Console to view font coverage analysis logs
Why is screenshot export slow? ▼
Large conversations with many images can be slow. Optimization suggestions:
- Enable PNG compression (Settings → PNG Compression → Enable) for smaller files and faster uploads
- Reduce the scaling factor (default 2x → change to 1x) for 4x faster speed
- Consider using other formats (HTML or PDF export is faster)
Expected performance: short conversations ~2s, medium ~5s, long ~10-15s
Does the extension collect my conversation data? ▼
Answer: No.
Privacy commitment:
- All processing is done locally (WASM runs in the browser)
- Data is not sent to extension servers (the extension has no backend)
- Only calls ChatGPT's official API (same as the web version)
- No conversation content is uploaded by the export flow
Permissions explained: activeTab (access current page), clipboardWrite (copy), downloads (download), storage (local settings)
How to batch backup all conversations? ▼
Recommended workflow:
- Click "Export Selected Conversations"
- Wait for the conversation list to load (may take a few seconds)
- Click "Select All"
- Choose format (Markdown or JSON recommended)
- Click "Start Export"
- Wait for batch download to complete (each conversation as a separate file)
Note: Exporting many conversations may take a few minutes. The browser may prompt "multiple file downloads" - you need to confirm and allow.
